IEEEIA Overview

"IEEE Information Assurance" (IEEEIA) is an approach to advancement of Information Assurance embracing several key concepts and based on two initial core activities.

Concepts:

  1. IEEEIA interest in Information Assurance is limited to the Realm of Information Technology, although there are aspects of Information Assurance outside of this realm.

  2. The Goal of Information Assurance is to guarantee delivery of information, subject to certain requirements, and high among these is timeliness.

  3. Information Assurance Depends on most or all underlying Information Technology areas. When the strengths of each of these areas is brought together, the goal of Information Assurance will be met.

  4. Success in  Information Assurance requires the Involvement of Many Technology Communities representing the great variety of activities in Information Technology. Formation of a community of communities reaching beyond IEEE or any one organization is necessary.

  5. The Goal of Information Assurance must be Asserted in the activities of all underlying technologies, and "systems" or "holistic" approach pursued.

  6. Insulation between and among technology communities must be stripped away and the isolation of technology developments ended for Information Assurance to succeed.

  7. Community Consensus is required make advances in Information Assurance meaningful, and these concepts are subject to change.

  8. IEEEIA treats the IEEE "Standards Activities" and "Technical Activities" (conferences, workshops) as a single activity.

Initial Core Activities:

  1. IEEE Task Force on Information Assurance (TFIA)

  2. IEEE Information Assurance Standards Committee (IASC) http://ieeeia.org/iasc
